Car Model CD set
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Roger Miller takes you back with this prized set of CD's
We already know how obsessed we are with this hobby. So what do you call a guy who copies every page, of every edition, of Car Model, and puts the images on a CD for us? A fanatic. Nothing else works.

This is Roger Miller, of RMT Customs. A fanatic after my own heart. He has done something so monumental, one has to wonder what drove him to do it. The original magazines contained articles on, R/C, modeling plastic, sold wood, kits, construction, scenery, and Tom Daniels and Ed Roth How-To's. Even our old friend Howard Kilgore has all his articles in here, and Ed Bianchi shows you how to rout a track. Let me see if I can explain it sufficiently.

First of all, the content is just marvelous, comprehensive, and just plain fun. Even the advertisements are spectacularly cool. It was the premiere magazine for modelers, for more than a decade. Now, Roger took the time to scan every page in high resolution (1275 X 1650), and jpg format. Scanning took hours a day for six months! Since I opened the files easily on a Mac computer, I will guess that these are cross platform CD's.

Then, he labeled each picture with the date and numbered them sequentially, and put each set together by months. Then the months were sorted by year. It's a very simple hierarchy that must have taken hours to catalog. He then burned them onto CD's in groups of 4 and 5 years. The CD's are labeled, and sent to you in colored sleeves. You can order them from the link above, and the cost is $45 dollars delivered, US. That is an unbelievable price for all that you will get.

Since these are all JPG files, it will be best if you can view them in a browser, like Photoshop (PC/MAC) Windows Explorer (PC), or Preview (Mac), or any other viewer that will let you slide show and rotate the canvas. Also, as you can see below, a little change in brightness and contrast make it a little easier to read. No need to do that to all the files, but if you find something you want to read, it might make it easier. I suggest the same thing if you select to print out anything. Brightening will help the output a lot.

Since Roger did do the initial work, if there are any other brave souls out there who might consider indexing all this material, get right on it, and send Roger the data.

This hobby is as much about the past, as it is the present. The material is still relevant. Do yourself a favor and pick up a set. You will have uncounted hours of joy going through the data, and it's great stuff from the best people, and it's all laid out beautifully for you.

Original on the left, brightness/contrast enhanced on the right. Bumped brightness only a few points positive, and 40-45 on the contrast.
Note: Roger has put a tremendous amount of time into this project. He asks that you please not pirate copies of these disks to your friends. Thank you for understanding.
