Review - The Windmill 360
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Note: There are many improvements to the car, including the body material, the windshield, and the color.

Finally someone has designed the perfect Thunderjet body for Fray, or any other, Thunderjet style racing. The HO World Windmill 360 is that car.

Up until now, most cars available were copies of old standards like the Aurora GT cars, and lowered and hogged out to slam the cars to the track. This worked very well, but they had flaws.

The cars weren't designed specifically for the needs of the racer. Mainly low slung, and with enough body to cover the 1 5/16" wide Wheels. We have all experienced what it's like rubbing silicone with another car in a tight turn. One car is going to barrel roll.

Another issue was all the effort of hogging, and lowering the posts. Not only was it a lot of work, but one was always a misguided Dremel away from "oops". This car is teched for you, and sits less than 1/32" high from track to rocker panel, when set up like the picture above/right. The third issue was getting air to the motor.

The Windmill 360 addresses all these issues. The body was designed around the chassis for a fantastic fit and balance, the wheels are under the fenders, the cutting and lowering is done for you, and scoops in the hood and sides allow plenty of the fresh stuff to circulate.

So, what can this lovely little gem do for you, as far as the clock goes? The test track around these parts is the daunting Petaluma Raceway course, a 75 foot, Lock and Joiner (we avoided routed) six lane, spaghetti track (80-12" curves). We started with a tuned chassis, like the one above, with a Ferrari GT 250 body, hogged and lowered. We ran 20 laps, and logged the best time. Then, we switched covers, and did another 20 laps with the Windmill 360. We managed a decrease of 4.98%, and that was consistant, and with a lot less driving on the edge. The car stuck like glue.

Note: No cutting is required on the chassis. It fits stock.

So, what we have here is what we have all been waiting for. A great looking car for the Fray Thunderjet, and we just bolt it on. Car comes in just the colors shown at the right (red, yellow, orange, and green), and a lexan windshield that you cut out and glue in, according to your needs. Chassis not included.

No Longer Available

Bodies are designed for the short wheel base. The lexan windshield requires cutting and gluing. Some flash removal is necessary for best look. Bodies are unpainted.

Note, HO World does not paint any portion of the car. Blue and white are not available colors at this time (photo by Marty Coffel).
