| HO World is running a raffle on one of these books. eTickets are $1 for 2, and $5 for 12. Payments can be made to PayPal account "slotcarbob@mac.com". Please consider this as a donation for the efforts of HO World, and good luck to all of you, and thank you for your support. The raffle runs until the last Wednesday in November, and an Excel Randomizer will determine the winner. Along with the book are two catalogs of Schiffer books. Those are quite interesting in themselves. You can't imagine what people collect. Due to our budget constraints, winner will be required to pay cost of shipping. HO World reserves the right to change the rules at any time. | |||||||||||||||
| The Greenberg Guide to Aurora Slot Cars by Thomas Graham is a book near and dear to my heart. Schiffer Publishing, a publisher of many collectors books has purchased the rights, and offers a new edition of that book. The cover is different, as are some of the pictures. If you are into slot cars, and especially Aurora, you should own this wonderful book. It's a complete, and I mean COMPLETE book on the subject, and includes historical details on the company, and on every slot car they made. As the book states, Graham does an exhaustive amount of research, gathering information from most of the original principals from Aurora, and such slot luminaries as Bob Beers, Howard Kilgore, Jim Russell, and Kevin Timothy. The hard work shows. I have read Graham's book on Revell models, and this one is much better written. He not only describes the line of production, from start to end, but includes special material on the history of the hobby, odd pieces Aurora made, and the National Champion Series that Aurora ran in the 60's. Two things make this an exceptionally special book. First, the pictures. This is an amazingly complete look at the cars, due to the diligent collecting of a few individuals. Second, the stories that Graham recalls from the participants add such life to it all. The cost is $29 for this edition. If you haven't had the pleasure, and you're a real slot car nut, as I am, this belongs in your library, or right out there on that coffee table. Note: While in transit to me for review, the book was damaged a little in one corner, apparently from being dropped. | |||||||||||||||
