| The first official races were held at Sacramentos Spyder Speedway March 9th. Http://www.geocities.com/spyderspeedway The 12 x 4 track was built by local carpenter and slot car enthusiast Curt Vanzandt. The layout is an extension of the Farmboy Hills layout on Brian Furgesons web site. A tight S turn was added to make it a twisty drivers course. The turnout on March 9th was excellent. 10 experienced drivers from the Sacramento and Bay Areas gathered to pack my garage to the brim. BAY AREA DRIVERS: LOCAL DRIVERS: Fresh from the Fray, the Tjets came out in full force. The track was perfect for Tjets, plenty of places to gas it, with a technical section to challenge even experienced drivers. The Tjets did find some bumps in the fresh pavement, but when the flag dropped everything was smoothed out. Experienced Fray drivers proved to be too much to handle in this race, Jeff and Bob tied for first with 65 laps, and Mark tied with Billy for third with 63 laps. Lowest lap time went to Bob with a 10.142 second lap, a track record! (And I thought mid 11s were good times) Next up was the drivers challenge. A new class was assembled called SACROC (Sacramento IROC). Four Super G+ Indy cars with 45 OHM controllers were set up. The drivers rotated but the cars and controllers stayed put. This proved to be quite an exciting event, exposing some veteran Tjet drivers to high speed magnet action. This was the evenings trophy race, so track owner Paul dug deep and pulled out an ace by driving 19 laps in the gutter lane to pull away with a 2 lap victory over Jeff and 3 laps over Shaun for third. Todd had the low lap time of 5.626 and was bumped off of the podium by less than a lap. Club stock topped off the night, running under HOPAC rules. Kevin started pole position in the yellow lane and drove away to an impressive victory. He was followed closely by Billy and Jeff who were within 1 lap. Best lap time went to Todd again, with a 3.980, tieing the track record for Club stock. Billy at Speedword Raceway raffled off a set of BSRT assortment tires and the winner was Kevin, who definitely earned them with his Club stock win! Congratulations to all! The first race at the SpyderSpeedway was a big success!
