| SCHOR Spring Nationals Version, 5-19,20-2001. David Zoriki and John Wakamatsus Tsunami International Raceway and Waka International Raceway. WSC, GT 1, 2, & 3 along with GTP cars. No weather report needed as we were indoors and it looked fine outside. Great competition, great comradery, some out of state guys you only see a couple of times a year. Could be something good, and it was! A number of boxes showed up before the event and race prizes galore were available for all participants. Thank you sponsors, we support you! Let us begin to describe the racing. Bear with me as I try to hit a highlight or two while laying out the facts! Tyco super stock, the Pro/Am version saw the main event come down to the top three finishers all within a lap of each other. Ben Vasquez, Benito Vasquez, and John Cukras battled in this one. Eric Roos Sr. won the Am part with Scott Dunlap 2nd, and Zane Walrod a fine 3rd. The Tomy super stock Pro/Am race saw the two top cars only a few feet apart as the power went off. Ben Vasquez and Rick Jocham were the top two in this one with John Cukras just a bit back. Scott Dunlap was the only Am to make the main, but joining him on the podium were Eric Roos Sr. and Johnny Cukras. The Modified 2001 race was a shocker with an Amateur winning the Pro/Am race. Johnny Cukras held off Rick Jocham and John Cukras to turn the trick. Milt Surratt joined Rick and John on the podium. Scott Dunlap and Eric Roos Sr. joined Johnny on the Am podium. The Neo race brought Benito Vasquez to the top with Ben Vasquez and Rick Jocham right there. No high drama, but much, much speed! The R/O race had Mark MacVittie wow the troops with a big red lane heat win. But Rick Jocham got his 2nd win of the Springs just ahead of Mark and Benito Vasquez. The Unlimited race saw Benito Vasquez take his 2nd event with Ben Vasquez just a shade back and John Wakamatsu running hard. The Concourse de Elegance competition brought out the best of the body mounters. David Zoriki bested Aaron Wakamatsu and Eddie Torres this day. Gary Morgan and David Zoriki were the only two drivers to run in a main event at the Springs this year and not pick up a trophy. David did get one in Concourse! The semi runners that just didnt move up to the mains included; Glenn Bachman, Aaron Wakamatsu, Eric Roos Jr., Jim Williams, and Eddie Torres. Some real chargers, a little off this weekend. The drivers that the consy would not let go of this nats included; Nelson Mark, Gene Bellegarde, and Mark Driskill. But it was not without running hard every event. The Spring Nationals Version #9 was the best of times. So many people to thank, so many kudos to hand out. So much merchandise for prizes. So much pitching in and getting the fingernails dirty. So many of the things that make you want to do it again next year that they totally outweigh any negatives that might make you not. Let us get together again in April 2002 for the 10th edition of the Spring Nationals. Only SCHOR can put this on! Thank you David Zoriki wherever you are! John Cukras | |||||||||
