Racing In Boise
Yes, Spring is in the air. But so is the sweet smell of red oil! Everyone is invited to the Idaho State Championships slot car weekend in Boise, Idaho on May 18th and 19th. Three different race classes will be run starting with the NSCRC Stock Car race hosted at Sam's Shearmanator Raceway (home of the annual 12 hours of Boise NSCRC magnet car race) on Friday evening. Saturday morning will see an AFX Magnatraction CanAm Drivers' Challenge on SlotCar Stan's super-smooth Envoy routed track inside Hobbytown.

Saturday afternoon, after a quick lunch and shuttle to the next venue, will be the Super Stock T-Jet race (Fray rules, of course) at Mark St. Clair's superb Hidden Springs track. The entry fee, which includes all three races, is a paltry $15. The two days of racing are open to any competitor willing to stand around with a bunch of old guys who still enjoy the hell out of watching toy cars going round and round. The culmination of all this slotcar mayhem will be the trophy and awards ceremony after the completion of Saturday's Super Stock race.

There will be trophies for all podium finishers in each event and scads of prizes to all the contestants. In fact, Harrison Woodrow of Model Motoring and John Balson of JB's ThunderBrushes have already

committed prize packages to the race!

Boise is an easy trip by car from Ferndale (just ask the Ferndale dudes, Rick Machado and Richard Phillis who made the trek in a beat up Geo Metro last year). Or, if you are inclined to make the trip by air, Southwest Airlines has run some really great deals to Boise from Sacramento, Spokane, Seattle and other destinations. These races could well be a good tune-up for the Washington State Championships in June or a nice follow-up to the Oregon State Championships in April (). Definitely no shortage of racing out west this Spring! There is no doubt that the racing will be *very* competitive as most of the Fray Carnage team will be in attendance as well as the local chapter of the NSCRC. A good time is definitely guaranteed, too. Oh, and don't forget to bring your trader box with you as there will be plenty of slotcar trading going on. If you have any questions about the races, locations, times, etc., contact Mark St. Clair for information.
