| Trucks provide a wonderful array of possibilities for conversions. Stake bodies, dump trucks and tractor trailer are easy to acquire, so I decided to start making some of the other tools we see on the road. The roll-back was my first conversion. This was done with some 3/16" I beams and HO Scale Diamond Plate from Plastruct and an AFX GMC Tractor. The parts were covered with chrome plate from Bare Metal Foil . The two "box" vans were done together by taking an old trailer and cutting it not quite in half. One used another AFX GMC tractor with the 5th wheel ground down and the other was a Road Race Replica truck with the exhaust pipe cut off. The floors were made from more diamond plate, the rear bumper used 1/16" I beam and the ends were "rolled" around a piece of 1/8" square tubing from Plastruct. The rear doors were made from garage doors from Pikestuff Kits that I use on my layout I've found a few more trucks that were definitely needed on any complete slot car city. A garbage truck and a street sweeper. Both were found as hot wheels so the back was removed and molds were created. After slosh casting (learned by going to Weird Jack's web site) a white garbage bed, I mounted it to a tow truck cab from Road Race Replicas. The rest of the fleet will be mounted to Mack Cabs, also from RRR. The same treatment was given to the street sweeper, though this was mounted on a Mack Cab. This first one sits a bit high so the next will be lowered before mounting. Molds have been made of all of my truck beds and castings can be purchased from me. | Box Vans, and Hauler | |||||||||||||
