| My kids and I just made bushes for the first time and they look pretty good. Joey's nine and Cody's four, I was able to get their attention for a few minutes to go over some safety rules like ?Tools are not toys? and ?you work with tools and play with toys? ?Don't get hurt or Mom won’t let you come out here anymore? So we set up the old card table in the garage tonight and made us some bushes! Things you will need: Take the pinking scissors and cut the synthetic pad into narrow strips. Then with the regular scissors cut in between each zigzag pattern, this should leave you with a bunch of small 1/4” diamonds. Next take some white glue and pour it into a jar lid, roll the toothpick into the glue covering approx. 1/8” and poke it into the diamonds point. Stick it into the foam or clay to dry,. After making around 80 of them, I let them sit and dry for a few minutes. I mixed up the ground foam in a medium sized jar until I got the color I was after. Then I poured some into the catch tray and the glue water mixture into a baby jar lid. Take the dried toothpick bush and dip it half way into the mixture. Turn the glue side up and let the excess drip into the dry half. (You don’t want this sopping wet, tap it off until it stops dripping.) Dip the bush into the ground foam making sure to coat all sides. Replace the bush in to the foam and let dry. These took us less than 30 minutes to make 81, and they are so easy to make my four year old can do it. You can cut the toothpick down to size and stick it in to your layout or remove the toothpick and use white glue to secure them. Note: Don’t worry about cutting the bushes evenly or the same size, you don’t want them all looking the same or they won't look natural. Have fun. | |||||||||
