Ted Turner's Layout - No, not THAT Ted Turner

Hi,

My name is Ted Turner. I live in Safety Harbor, Fl. That is on the west coast, near Tampa.I thought you might like a couple of shots of my home track.

The track is mounted on a 5 1/2' x 10' 3/4" high density base. I used Tomy track because when I started, it was the only one with odd radiused turns readily available. It is approximately 65' in length. At present the power consists of separate power packs on each lane. The track is wired with 16g wire, 3 power taps per lane. There are variable brakes at each station. The track was laid
down, then plaster was poured and squeegeed flush for aprons. Most turns feature foam brick walls to minimize body damage. Most of the infield inserts are mounted on 1/4" masonite and can be lifted out with buildings intact for track maintenance, and dusting of collectibles on rear wall. The "tunnel is lighted with automotive dome lights. All of the rock work was created with crumpled newspaper covered with plaster cloth.

I originally had just a track nailed down to carpet, but was inspired by a friend (T-Jet Al Jaconetta) to rip it up and detail it. It is a work in progress. All but the Adam's Family House were bought, "well used" at train shows. They were dismantled, cleaned up, detailed, and given new life.

As for myself, after years of racing 1/24th scale, Flexi's to Grp7, I was first drawn into HO collecting and racing by Tyco's US1. While it's mostly T-Jets today, we still have some really cool dump truck and semi races. On eBay I am known as "flashho".

There are four tracks in our little informal club, mine being the smallest. The other three are all on the plus side of 100'. Mine and T-Jet Al's (all original t-jet track) are the only one is detailed to the extent shown. Mike P's (TYCO) has buildings but is flat with no detail. Dean's is a glass smooth 6-lane (AFX) with intersections.
