The People of HOWL
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
By Ed Penland
For almost 4 years now, HO World List (HOWL) has been in existence, and boasts almost 600 members. I thought it would be nice to piece together a bio of as many individuals as possible, and include their pictures. I offered an outline:

1. Name
2. Address

3. email

4. When you got in the hobby
5. any major events you entered
6. any major events you won
7. what you like to do;

and in general, most followed that. I will post them as I received them.

    The only major event I've been to would be the
    Thunder Road Tour (2001 - with Ron Fields, Jr. and Mika Malehorn) race at Slugger's.  I remember Ron and Mika coming up to me between heats and saying stuff like, "Keep up the good work; you're doing fine."  I finished overall in 11th, which was pretty good since it was halfway up the field.  I also got the Good Sportsmanship award out of it too.

    Hobby Time:  I started this slotcar thing when I was a kid, probably 9 or 10 with a 1/32 Eldon figure 8 set.  Got into t-jets a year or two later probably around 1966.  Played with them pretty steady up until high school when I discovered real cars and girls.  I dug them out again around 1990, played with them a while and then sold them, 30+ t-jets, a couple hundred feet of lock and joiner track for...whaaaa!!!!!  $75.00.  I thoiught I was ripping the guy off at that!  A few years later I got into them again, then sold the stuff off again but this time for more money.  I finally got back into them again for good this time around 1996, about the time of my heart attack. I needed something to occupy my time. I currently race with a great group of guys who play with nothing but AFX magnatraction cars.  I'm taking delivery, very soon I hope of a Dunlap routed track, custom designed by Scott Dunlap and myself to fit a tight cramped basement space.  I'll submit pictures and article when iget it up and running.

    Events:    I have participated in 4 "Frays"  and 1 Idaho State HO Championship but have not done particularly well in any.  I am trying at this time to put the Seattle Fray Team back together for a run at the 2005 Fray.

    My Faroite thing about this hobby:  The people I've met.

    Other Hobbies:  Far to many to mention but I WILL break 80 golfing this year.  (Shot 80 today just before I sat down to write this)
