Average Newbie Layout?
Newbie to a journeyman can be a long or short road. It depends on you and how much data you want to retain. I set my goals on learning a little at a time as I don't have a PC at home. I figure that this is a life time hobby and I'll spend a life time learning. So I try not to learn it all in one day.

These are suggestions. I guess the 1st thing to learn is the what set to buy. It seems the large percentage of us newbies have already bought a set then we find that there are places on the internet that have slotcar info. The only problem is that when you ask what set to get , you get a lot of different answers. Though they are not right or wrong answers just different. All of the sets have their pros and cons. A lot will depend on you and how many lanes you want to race on. If it is possible try to find someone in your area that has some home tracks and try them out for yourself.

Second would be the cars. This is what I did over a 2 year period. I bought at least 2 cars of each manufacturer and try them out till I found my niche. When you find that brand then try the different car bodies that are available. If your Track Manager allows you to spend more then your lucky.

Rules seem to be one of the major problem confronting groups. Unless you already got friends and family lined up to start a club rules should be the last worry for a newbie. If your group is all newbies then they become journeyman then enact some rules and let everyone have an input and a vote. In our group we range from 11years old to 46 years. Everyone has a voice and a vote on the rules.

Getting the word out and finding folks to race may seem hard if you live in rural areas or a small town. Try starting one with your local church's youth program. Go to the local hobby shop and see if there a track there. See if you can put up a flyer in the store to start a club. Some local newspapers have free want ads post a notice with them.

The best thing a newbie can do is get on the HO Distribution List. A lot of the veterans are willing to share tips and info to all . Read as many of the info post as possible if they don't make sense then ask. If that info is above your level then don't worry about it you'll get to that level on your on sweet time. Its a life time hobby and have the time of your life with this hobby. The only dumb question is one that doesn't get asked.
